Back in the Studio and Still Forgetting Why We Walked into a Room

Well, hello you awesome human you! I’ve got an update for you. The year started out feeling like we got shoved into a washing machine set to extra spin cycle—but I am beyond happy to report that Klee is BACK in the studio and feeling much better!

Now, we still have a doctor’s appointment next week where we’ll get the next set of instructions. It’ll either be awesome wisdom or looking at a chart while making vague humming sounds (you know what I mean). But the good news? So far, so good!

Us at the hospital for a bazillion times

The Delicate Balance (That Was Absolutely Annihilated by Life)

As you probably know, Klee and I balance a ton of creative stuff. We do art, murals, music, videos, podcasts, books, workshops, a Patreon membership, and occasionally remember to eat food. Our creative business runs like an elaborate juggling act, except the balls are on fire, someone keeps throwing in new ones, and gravity is unpredictable.

But then… BAM! A giant wrench fell out of the sky and CRUSHED the entire operation. And when I say “wrench,” I mean the kind that makes you question your entire existence while standing in the kitchen, staring blankly at a fridge that you know you opened for a reason but now have no clue why.

We’re just now picking up the pieces and putting things back together. Are we nailing it? Almost. Do we still walk into rooms and immediately forget why we’re there? Also yes. But I have faith that by next month, the balance will be restored, and I’ll stop opening my email inbox only to immediately forget why I did that in the first place.

Look at that beautiful creature at her bench!

So How Do We Balance So Much Creative Stuff?

Ohhh, I’m so glad you asked because I love talking about this! Balancing a creative life isn’t about having a perfectly organized schedule (hilarious, right?)—it’s about understanding your energy, priorities, and what actually keeps you moving forward. Here’s what helps us:

  1. Know What Absolutely Needs to Get Done First
Not everything is equally urgent. Some things need to happen now (book deadlines, mural projects, feeding ourselves), while other things can take a backseat (reorganizing the entire studio because “it feels off”). Prioritize wisely.
  2. Make Creativity Part of Your Daily Life
The trick isn’t finding time—it’s making creativity part of your routine, like brushing your teeth (but with more paint… wait, no, don’t brush your teeth with paint… the struggle is real). If you set aside even 20 minutes to do something (anything) creative daily, it keeps the momentum going.
  3. Respect Your Brain’s Bandwidth
We all want to do ALL THE THINGS. But burnout is real. If your brain is fried, don’t force creativity—step away, walk around, eat a snack, or yell dramatically into the void (trust me, it helps). Your work will be better for it.
  4. Use the “Tiny Steps” Method
If a big project feels overwhelming, break it into small, manageable steps. You don’t need to “write a book” today, but you can write 100 words. You don’t need to “paint a masterpiece,” but you can sketch an idea. Tiny steps add up faster than you think.
  5. Celebrate the Wins (Even the Small Ones!)
If we only celebrate massive accomplishments, we’ll constantly feel behind. So celebrate finishing a draft, selling a piece, creating something new, or even just showing up for your creativity. Heck, celebrate remembering why you walked into a room! It’s a win!
She’s been on fire since returning to the studio

I think that’s about it… I could be forgetting something…

Oh yeah! Have fun and don’t be all doomsday about what you didn’t get done. There is always tomorrow.

Thank You for Your Love and Support

To everyone who has sent love, well-wishes, and good vibes for Klee—we love you guys SO MUCH. Seriously. You’ve been incredible, and it means the world to us.

We’re getting back on track, slowly but surely, and we’re excited for all the creative chaos that’s coming next. Stay tuned for more art, more music, more randomness, and hopefully less walking into rooms confused.

Stay awesome, stay creative, and remember: if you forgot why you walked into a room, it was probably for snacks.

Love,
Rafi & Klee

Why Having Too Much Going On is a Terrible Idea (But I’m Doing It Anyway)

Hello, Awesome human!

Are you feeling overwhelmed right now? Let’s talk about having too much going on. You know, that state of existence where every hour of the day feels like the finale of a fireworks display—chaotic, dazzling, and slightly terrifying.

As I sit here typing this blog, Here’s the lineup:

  1. Book Release Next Week: Because writing a book wasn’t challenging enough, I decided to throw in finishing the audiobook by then. Sleep is for the weak, right?
  2. Mural Design Concept: Due this week. Nothing screams “relaxation” like designing a mural that’s probably the size of a small country.
  3. Art Commissions: Scheduling a couple more because why not pile on?
  4. Calendar Promotion: Hoping to promote it by the end of the month so I can afford to order them. It’s like a Kickstarter, but with more stress and fewer backers.
  5. Holiday Sale Planning: In a couple of weeks. Because the holidays aren’t hectic enough without planning a virtual sale that could rival Black Friday.
  6. Makerspace Ribbon Cutting: Happening this week. I’m helping run it, which mostly involves nodding enthusiastically and pretending I know what’s going on.

Oh, and let’s not forget that my YouTube channel is looking more like a ghost town than a bustling community right now, and I’ve barely interacted with my online Rogue tribe of artists lately. If I were a circus, tickets would be sold out for the sheer chaos of it all.

The Million-Dollar Myth

You’d think all this “hustle” would have us swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck. Spoiler alert: Nope. Last month’s financial hit said, “Not today!” So while we’re busy, it’s more like busy broke than busy bougie. Filthy rich? Only if we’re talking about the pile of dishes in my sink.

How Do I Handle It Without Imploding?

Here’s the thing, I actually don’t recommend this level of chaos to anyone. But, if you find yourself in a similar situation (which you probably will, because you’re awesome and ambitious), here’s how I manage to keep my head from spinning like a pottery wheel on overdrive:

1. Get Organized (Even If It Feels Like Herding Cats)

I write everything down—deadlines, to-dos, random thoughts about what I have going on like squirrel conspiracies. If it’s not on my list, it doesn’t exist. Sure, my list is terrifying, but at least I know where my terror is coming from.

2. Take Baby Steps

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is an audiobook, mural, or calendar release. I focus on small, manageable chunks of work (or as I like to call them, “fa-chunks”) and tackle them one at a time. No multitasking here—it’s a trap. One chunk at a time.

3. Fa-Chunk Your Fa-Chunks

There are days when I wake up and think, Not today, life. Not today. On those days, I pick just one thing to accomplish. I Give myself a limit on how long I’m willing to work on it before I quit for the day. This gets me started and I usually get in the groove and work longer on it. It’s not about winning the whole war; it’s about winning the battle that gets me started for the day.

4. Don’t Let Overwhelm Sink Your Ship

The most dangerous thing isn’t the pile of tasks—it’s the creeping sense of oh no, I can’t do this! I kick overwhelm out of the room the moment it shows up. My enthusiasm may take a hit now and then, but I refuse to let it sink completely.

5. Deadlines Are Suggestions (Sometimes)

Here’s a little secret: I’m not afraid to extend deadlines if I absolutely have to. Sure, I try to honor my commitments, but if things get overwhelming, I remind myself that it’s better to deliver something amazing late than mediocre on time. Deadlines are flexible (within reason), and sometimes giving yourself breathing room is the kindest thing you can do.

Why I Keep Going

Despite the chaos, I love what I do. Sure, it’s like juggling flaming swords while riding a unicycle, but it’s my unicycle, and those are my flaming swords. At the end of the day, every mural, work of art, book, video, and project is a step closer to my ultimate creative dream… to make the world a little brighter.

That being said, I’m taking steps to keep this from ever happening again. By spacing out projects and keeping them more manageable, I can ensure that my circus acts remain thrilling instead of overwhelming. Live and learn, right?

So, if you’re feeling like life is one big circus right now, take a deep breath, fa-chunk your day, and don’t let the overwhelm steal your spotlight. You’ve got this. If I can do it without losing my mind, everyone can.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled chaos! 😊

What’s on your plate this week? Share your circus acts below—I promise I won’t judge!

Why It’s Okay to Put Things Off and How to Make It Work for You

Ah, procrastination—the time-honored tradition of putting off until tomorrow what could definitely, maybe, sort of, possibly be done today. If you’re reading this instead of tackling that big project, welcome! You’ve come to the right place. Here, we’ll explore why procrastination isn’t the evil villain it’s often made out to be and how you can actually turn it into a superpower. Yes, you read that right—a superpower.

Recently, I took on a project that was supposed to span four months. Naturally, I did what any good procrastinator would do—I put it off. Then, in what can only be described as a burst of last-minute genius (or panic, depending on how you look at it), I started and finished the entire project in just one week. I surprised myself, honestly. But when I think back, every large project I’ve tackled has followed this same pattern. I procrastinate, I panic a little, and then, somehow, the magic happens.

This recent experience was a wake-up call for me. I realized that maybe—just maybe—I need to start trusting the process. Procrastination isn’t a sign that I’m slacking off; it’s just part of my creative rhythm. And when the deadline looms, that’s when the real magic kicks in. So instead of fighting it, I’ve decided to embrace it. After all, it’s worked for me so far!

The Procrastination Club: Membership Perks Include Snacks and Panic

First off, let’s get one thing straight: if you procrastinate, you’re not lazy, unmotivated, or doomed to a life of unfinished tasks. You’re just human. That’s right—procrastination is as universal as sneezing, and pretty much everyone does it. Whether it’s avoiding a deadline, putting off cleaning the garage, or postponing that dentist appointment, we’ve all been there. As a member of the Procrastination Club, our unofficial motto is, “I’ll get to it… eventually.” As a member, you’ll enjoy snacks, spontaneous cleaning sprees, and the occasional moment of panic. It’s a blast, really.

Why Do We Procrastinate? It’s All About Fear (and a Little Bit of Fun)

Let’s dig into why we procrastinate. A lot of the time, it’s fear. Fear of not being good enough, fear of failing, fear of realizing you’ve bitten off more than you can chew (which is ironic, considering how much snacking happens during procrastination). You might look at that big, looming deadline and think, “What if I can’t pull this off? What if I don’t have what it takes?”

Here’s a secret: that fear isn’t doing you any favors. It’s just making you stress out over something that, in the grand scheme of things, probably isn’t as life-or-death as you’re making it out to be. Deadlines can feel like doomsday clocks ticking down to zero, but in reality, they’re just goal posts—places to aim for. Whether you get there early, on time, or with a last-minute dash, the important thing is that you get there.

Deadlines: Not the End of the World, Just a Suggestion

Remember back in school when missing a deadline meant a bad grade, or at work when it could mean losing your job? No wonder we’ve turned deadlines into these monstrous, stress-inducing things. But here’s a little perspective: deadlines are important, sure, but they’re not the end of the world. More often than not, you’ll meet them just fine—especially if you’re not wasting energy stressing out about the process.

Instead of seeing deadlines as immovable, terrifying barriers, try thinking of them as flexible targets. Your job is to get as close as possible, and if you don’t hit the bullseye, it’s not the end of the world. Sometimes, that last-minute burst of creativity is exactly what you need to pull it all together.

The Last-Minute Magic: How Procrastination Can Boost Creativity

Now, let’s talk about the silver lining. Believe it or not, procrastination can actually boost your creativity. When you give your brain some space to wander (read: procrastinate), it has a chance to mull things over in the background. You might not be actively working on your project, but your subconscious is—and when you finally sit down to get it done, you might find yourself in a creative flow that surprises you.

It’s like when you’re trying to remember the name of that actor in that one movie, and it only comes to you hours later when you’re doing something completely unrelated. Your brain is sneaky like that. So, next time you find yourself procrastinating, don’t panic. Let your mind wander a bit—you might just stumble upon the idea or solution you were looking for.

Turning Procrastination into Productivity: The Art of the Deadline Dash

When the deadline is finally breathing down your neck, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But here’s the good news: this is where the magic happens. That looming deadline can actually sharpen your focus and drive you to perform at your best. Sure, it might be stressful, but it’s also exhilarating in its own way. There’s something about the pressure that makes everything snap into place.

So, when you find yourself in that final-hour crunch, don’t despair. Embrace it. Pour yourself a strong cup of coffee, put on your favorite get-stuff-done playlist, and dive in. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish when the clock is ticking.

Procrastination Is Human—Embrace It

At the end of the day, procrastination isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s a natural part of the creative process. Sure, it might make things a little more stressful at times, but it also gives your brain the space it needs to percolate on ideas. And when it’s go-time, you’ll be ready to bring your best, last-minute A-game.

So, if you find yourself procrastinating, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, laugh it off, enjoy a snack, and know that when the time comes, you’ll get it done. And who knows? You might just discover that your best work happens when you embrace the chaos and let the creative juices flow in those final moments.

After all, as the old saying goes, “It is what it is”—and sometimes, what it is turns out to be pretty awesome.

Why Do I Put Off Creative Projects?

I’ve got a burning topic that’s been tickling my brain all week, and it’s about the sneaky ways we convince ourselves that we’re not procrastinating when we totally are. You know, the art of self-trickery.

I Need More Research.

So, picture this: you’ve got this brilliant project or art career you’re dying to dive into, but somehow, you find yourself tangled in the infamous research loop. You’re convinced you need to know more, and before you know it, you’re knee-deep in a vortex of information, with no end in sight. Research is essential, but there’s a fine line between knowing enough and drowning in the sea of Google tabs.

I Need More Time.

And let’s not forget the classic “I need more time” excuse. We’ve all been there, swearing up and down that the day only has 24 hours, conveniently forgetting that Beyoncé also has the same 24 hours. Time is a sneaky thing. The longer you put off your masterpiece, the more time magically disappears, or so we tell ourselves.

I Need To Be Told It’s OK To Do This.

Now, here’s a gem: waiting for permission. Newsflash, you don’t need a golden ticket from Willy Wonka to start creating. Don’t sit around twiddling your thumbs, hoping for someone to discover you. Be your own art superhero and put yourself out there. It’s like jumping into the deep end of a pool – it’s scary, but it’s where the magic happens.

I Should Be Doing Something Important.

And here’s a personal favorite of mine – the “it’s irresponsible” excuse. Sometimes, your brain tells you that pursuing your passion is reckless, especially if it doesn’t come with a fat paycheck. But guess what? Responsibility is overrated. Dive into those passion projects, even if they’re not swimming in dollar bills. The reward is in the process, not just the outcome.

I Need More Money.

Ah, the money excuse. “I’ll start when I have more money.” Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Spoiler alert: you’ll never feel like you have enough money. Embrace the chaos, start with what you have, and watch the magic unfold.

I Have Kids.

Now, kids and responsibilities – a legitimate concern. But hey, you can be an artist and a responsible adult simultaneously. Show your kids the beauty of pursuing your dreams, and don’t be the parent who only preaches. Be the parent who paints the picture of a life well-lived.

I Need The Right Logo.

And don’t get me started on the “I don’t have the right space or logo” nonsense. Your creative journey doesn’t hinge on having the perfect setup. Picasso didn’t wait for the stars to align, and neither should you. Use what you have, where you are, and let the creativity flow.

In conclusion, just get started. Break free from the chains of procrastination, even if it’s just baby steps. Embrace the suck, because everything you do will suck until it doesn’t. Happy holidays, you incredible beings. ! adore you all, and will catch you on the flip side! Adios!
