For too long, the creative spirit has been relegated to the basement, the spare bedroom, and the isolated studio. We have been taught to compete for crumbs, to guard our secrets, and to wait for permission from distant gatekeepers.

The Art Syndicate is the end of permission.

We are a collective of makers, shakers, and rule-breakers. We are a home for the painters, musicians, writers, illustrators, and jewelers. We are for the hobbyists finding their voice, the professional creators honing their craft, the digital wizards, the woodworkers, the poets, the photographers, and the performers. Whether you create for a living or create to stay sane, you are a vital part of the Syndicate. We recognize a simple truth: We are stronger together.

Our Core Convictions:

1. Radical Inclusion If you make things, you belong here. We don’t care if you have a degree or a dusty sketchbook. If you have a creative pulse, you have a seat at our table. We bridge the gap between all disciplines because the best ideas happen where different worlds collide.

2. We Don’t Complain, We Make Change We aren’t here to sit around and talk about what the scene is missing or why things aren’t better. We don’t wait for a seat at the table, we build our own table. If there isn’t an opportunity, we create one. If there isn’t a gallery, we find a wall. We spend our energy on solutions, not grievances.

3. We Create, We Don’t Destroy We are here to add value to our world, not take away from it. We do not damage property, we do not disrespect the work of others, and we do not tear down our community to make a point. Our tools are used for construction, our voices for elevation, and our hands for building a more beautiful environment for everyone.

4. Connection is a Catalyst When we bridge the gap between individual creators and local organizations, opportunities don’t just happen; they multiply. We are the connective tissue of the creative community.

We are a collective of creators in Venango County and the surrounding regions who believe that we are stronger when we work together. We connect individual artists, musicians, writers, and makers with local organizations and each other to share resources, find opportunities, and build a more vibrant creative scene.

We know, it sounds a bit like we’re plotting something in a dimly lit back room (and in a way, we are!). Traditionally, a syndicate is just a group of people teaming up to pull off a shared goal. We chose the name because it sounds much more active than a “club” or a “committee.” It implies a conspiracy of creators working together to make things happen. We aren’t here to be exclusive or scary; we’re here to have a unified, powerful voice so we can stop asking for permission and start making our own rules. Plus, “The Art Syndicate” just sounds cooler than “The Monthly Meeting of People Who Make Stuff.”

Anyone with a creative pulse. This includes painters, musicians, writers, illustrators, jewelers, hobbyists, professional creators, digital wizards, woodworkers, poets, photographers, and performers. If you make things, or support people who make things, you’re in.

Right now, our focus is simply on building the community and gathering our collective energy. There are no membership fees to be part of the Syndicate. We want to remove barriers, not create new ones.

The meetings are our chance to move from digital connections to real-life partnerships. We gather to meet face-to-face, discuss upcoming opportunities, and share wisdom about professional growth. Most importantly, we meet to plan our own events. Instead of waiting for an invite, we use this time to brainstorm, organize, and launch the shows, festivals, and workshops we want to see in our community.

Absolutely not. The Syndicate is built on radical inclusion. We believe that the hobbyist finding their voice is just as vital to the community as the veteran professional. We all have something to learn and something to share.

We maintain a curated list of deadlines for open calls, exhibitions, and grant opportunities specifically relevant to our region. Yes! That is exactly why we are here. We want to act as a megaphone for our members. If you have an exhibition, a performance, or a workshop coming up, let the community know so we can show up and support you.

We meet every fourth Thursday of the month from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Locations may vary as we like to support different local creative spaces, so keep an eye on our newsletter or website for each month’s specific location. Our main meeting location is The Fallen Shoppe in Oil City.
