Wow. Our first official Art Syndicate meeting was a massive success. The room at The Fallen Shoppe was buzzing with the kind of “creative conspiracy” energy we’ve been dreaming about. We are no longer a group of lone wolves; we are a pack.
For those who couldn’t make it, or those who want to relive the plotting, here is the recap of what went down. Sorry about the video quality, this is something we will improve for future meetings.
Meeting Summary: February 26, 2026
Location: The Fallen Shoppe, Oil City
1. The Vision: A Union for Artists
Rafi and Klee shared their 15-year history as full-time artists and the core mission of the Syndicate: Unified Strength. We are acting as a professional collective—a “labor union” for creatives. We aren’t waiting for permission from traditional organizations. We are going to rent our own spaces, host our own multidisciplinary “extravaganzas,” and ensure our voices are heard by local councils.
2. Information Hub & Vetting
We are ending the need for every artist to “reinvent the wheel.”
- Art-Syndicate.com: Rafi has opened up his private database of grants, open calls, and workshops to the public.
- Vetting: The Syndicate will help vet opportunities to ensure you aren’t getting scammed or working for organizations that don’t respect your value.
- Logistics: We discussed ride-sharing (carpooling art to distant galleries) and bulk-sharing supplies.
3. Key Projects & Announcements
- Mural Fest 2026: This project is officially approved! We will be painting four-sided “mural monoliths.” Important: Every artist involved will receive a stipend. No “working for exposure” here.
- Prism in the Frost: Our open call with The Exchange. The theme is simple: make something colorful. Deadline: March 14th.
- MAC Center Expo: We’ve clarified that vending is allowed. Rafi and Klee are meeting with the Arts Council on Monday, March 2nd, to advocate for Syndicate members.
4. Special Guest: Erie Arts & Culture
Casey from Erie Arts & Culture joined us to share incredible regional resources, including the Creative Entrepreneur Grant ($2,000 + free consulting) and opportunities for teaching artists. They are a massive asset to our six-county region.
5. Logistics & Tech
- Meeting Change: Based on your feedback, we are tentatively moving future meetings to the fourth Tuesday of the month.
- The Discord Server: This is our private “conspiracy room.” Use it for real-time needs: “I need a pickup truck,” “I have extra canvas,” or “Who wants to carpool to Meadville?”
Action Items:
- Join the Discord: Reach out to Klee if you need a fresh invite link.
- Enter “Prism in the Frost”: Submit via Artnightoc.com by March 14th.
- French Creek Mixer: Support our neighbors! This Saturday, February 28th at 6:00 PM in Meadville.
Some Topics For Our Next Meeting:
- This was brought up during the meeting. Thinking about a creative 3rd place for artists to gather and create after work.
- Artists in the transit having a street level communal gallery space to represent the artist studios in the building.
- We want to put together a group of syndicate leaders that represents all creatives. An artist, a writer, a musician, a jeweler, filmmaker, photographer, and anything else that fits the word creative. These humans will work closely with us to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.
Please add a topic you would like added to the agenda for our next meeting in the comment section below.
