This week, my studio has transformed into what I can only describe as organized chaos with a sprinkle of heartfelt gratitude. Picture me surrounded by a sea of books, pens, stickers, and carefully chosen goodies, all while trying not to get lost in a bubble mailer vortex. Why? Because it’s time to send Dear Artist, Don’t Give Up on its journey to your hands, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Signing books isn’t just me scribbling my name in an attempt to look fancy. Oh no, it’s a full-blown ritual. I carefully open each book, pen in hand, and think about the person who’s about to receive it. Some of your names I’ve seen before—familiar friends who’ve cheered us on over the years. Others are new, fresh names, part of this wild, rogue adventure for the very first time. And the notes—oh my gosh, the notes you’ve left with your orders! Let me just say, you’ve had me laughing, crying, and occasionally double-checking I spelled “Rafi” correctly through the happy tears.
Now, let’s address the elephant (or should I say poster) in the room. Yes, the posters I ordered are stuck in the mysterious limbo of shipping purgatory. I’ve considered bribing the postal gods with coffee and cookies, but no dice. So instead, I’m including something else special for you. Because these books, with all their love, dedication, and rebellious rogue energy, need to get to you now. I refuse to let a postal delay hold them hostage!
Speaking of goodies, you should have received an email today with the subject line “Your Rafi and Klee Studios pre-order from (insert date here) is now available.” Inside, you’ll find a link to download the MP3 audiobook and a digital poster designed just for you by yours truly. If the email’s playing hide-and-seek, check your SPAM folder or reach out to us. We’ve got your back!
As for the physical goodies, they’ll be hitting the post office by Tuesday, December 3rd, like a rogue wave of creative energy. You’ll get a shipping email with a tracking number soon, so keep an eye out for that too. Until then, know that every signed book and carefully packed package carries a little piece of Klee and me. Your support is what keeps us going, creating, and believing in the power of this amazing creative community.
So thank you—yes, YOU—for being part of this incredible journey. We hope you love the book, the audiobook, and all the rogue surprises headed your way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a stack of dedications to write and more bubble mailers to wrestle.
Stay awesome, stay creative, and watch out for those shipping emails!
With so much love and rogue gratitude, Rafi (and Klee, who is probably laughing at my bubble mailer battles)
Ah, the holiday season! Many humans think of decking the halls, finding the perfect tree, untangling miles of lights (only to find they don’t work), and the thrill of picking out gifts. But for us artists, the holidays are a bit of a balancing act: we’re diving into festive gatherings, hunting for a few extra gigs to boost the income, and somehow juggling it all while trying not to spill our eggnog everywhere.
Contrary to popular belief, the holiday season isn’t typically the huge moneymaker for artists that people think it is. Sure, it’s a time of booming business for big-box stores and online retail giants. But original art and jewelry? That’s a whole different story. What we create is personal. It’s not a box of chocolates or some mass-produced thing that you can easily wrap and stick a bow on. Buying art is more like matchmaking than shopping. It’s either love at first sight, or it’s not happening. Unless someone’s commissioning a custom piece or gifting to a die-hard fan, most people don’t want to gamble on choosing the “perfect piece of art” for someone else.
Our loyal collectors, friends, and those we consider family are the real reason we’re still in business at this time of year. Somehow, we manage to make it through each holiday season with our creative spirits intact and a few sales under our belts. These are relationships that we have built for over a decade and words cannot describe how much we appreciate it. If you know some artists out there that you love and adore, remember them for the holidays. It’s a powerful thing to feel supported in what you do. Did someone come to mind? If so, show them some love.
This is also the time of year when I start thinking about fun, unique art pieces that would make for great gifts. I’m still working on it. It’s been a decade of brainstorming and experimenting, but I feel like I’m getting close! Any year now, I’ll crack the code on that perfect blend of joy, creativity, and gift-worthy art. Some day, maybe. Until then, I’ll keep making non-gift-worthy art that speaks from the heart and hope it lands in the hands of someone who truly appreciates it.
Out At A Market For The Holidays 2015
One of my favorite things to do during this season is to release a special, limited-edition wall calendar. This year, I created the “Me and It” calendar, featuring our beloved monsters doing their thing and spreading joy in all their quirky ways. Every month has a special illustration, a bit of inspiration, and some fun little “holidays” mixed in for laughs (International Nap Day, anyone?). This calendar is my way of adding a little extra brightness to 2025 for 100 lucky art lovers.
And then there’s one of the absolute highlights of our holiday season: our annual Virtual Holiday Sale! This year, it’s tentatively scheduled for December 8th, so keep an eye out! We’ll have special discounts on our work, some live-streamed music, and a festive studio tour. We’ve been told it’s a lot of fun, and while we hope to bring in a little extra income, the real reason we do it is to hang out with our online family for a holiday treat. There’s something magical about coming together, showing our wares, and just being able to chat and celebrate with everyone who’s supported us. For us, it’s the holiday spirit wrapped up in a live stream.
Our First Holiday Sale In Our New Home 2021
There’s also Artist Sunday, coming up on the Sunday after Black Friday. We’re still on the fence about what we’ll be doing this year, but it’s a fantastic day to support artists in your area, who may have something very special you didn’t even know you were looking for. So while you’re thinking about fighting crowds and arguing over parking spaces on Black Friday, don’t forget the small businesses and individual artists out there. We may not have the advertising budgets that big-box stores do, but we sure have a lot of heart… and let’s be honest, we’re way more awesome.
For now, we are knee-deep in a flurry of book signing, doodling, and heartfelt dedications as we prep to send out these long-awaited beauties. Our living room has turned into a chaotic book-signing assembly line—think Santa’s workshop, but with more coffee and fewer elves. You’ve been so patient, waiting months for Dear Artist, Don’t Give Up, and we’re thrilled to announce the moment has arrived—shipping starts THIS WEEK! If you hear a joyful “Woo-hoo!” echoing from Oil City, it’s us celebrating this epic milestone. Thank you for your love and support—your books are coming your way with a sprinkle of magic and a whole lotta heart!
Come out and enjoy time with creative humans, cookies, coffee, and community—oh my! Tonight, from 4 PM to 6 PM, the 5th floor of the historic Oil City Bank building (100 Seneca St, Oil City, PA 16301) will come alive as we officially open the doors to the Venango County Makerspace!
Picture this: artists demonstrating their crafts, the smell of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the tantalizing aroma of an absurd amount of cookies, and—best of all—you get to hear me say a few words about how exciting this is!
Why I’m So Excited About This Space
Let me take a moment to gush about this building, because it deserves some love. Klee and I were lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the renovations when we were invited by Side Hustle Brews to discuss a mural project for the space. Walking through the the old bank building, we could see the bones of its history and feel the buzz of its transformation.
I’m currently designing a mural for this incredible space, and it’s an honor to contribute artistically to a project that’s breathing new life into a piece of our town’s history. Being part of something this significant feels deeply rewarding—not just as an artist, but as someone who believes in the power of community and creativity to spark change.
And the Makerspace? Wow. It’s more than just a space in a renovated building—it’s the beating heart of something new and exciting in Venango County. It’s a place where ideas, innovation, and creativity can collide to build something greater. This project is a huge step for Oil City, and I’m beyond proud to not only have a paintbrush in this story but also to help organize this first-ever makerspace for the county.
Things are happening in Oil City and it is all very awesome.

Are you feeling overwhelmed right now? Let’s talk about having too much going on. You know, that state of existence where every hour of the day feels like the finale of a fireworks display—chaotic, dazzling, and slightly terrifying.
As I sit here typing this blog, Here’s the lineup:
Book Release Next Week: Because writing a book wasn’t challenging enough, I decided to throw in finishing the audiobook by then. Sleep is for the weak, right?
Mural Design Concept: Due this week. Nothing screams “relaxation” like designing a mural that’s probably the size of a small country.
Art Commissions: Scheduling a couple more because why not pile on?
Calendar Promotion: Hoping to promote it by the end of the month so I can afford to order them. It’s like a Kickstarter, but with more stress and fewer backers.
Holiday Sale Planning: In a couple of weeks. Because the holidays aren’t hectic enough without planning a virtual sale that could rival Black Friday.
Makerspace Ribbon Cutting: Happening this week. I’m helping run it, which mostly involves nodding enthusiastically and pretending I know what’s going on.
Oh, and let’s not forget that my YouTube channel is looking more like a ghost town than a bustling community right now, and I’ve barely interacted with my online Rogue tribe of artists lately. If I were a circus, tickets would be sold out for the sheer chaos of it all.
The Million-Dollar Myth
You’d think all this “hustle” would have us swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck. Spoiler alert: Nope. Last month’s financial hit said, “Not today!” So while we’re busy, it’s more like busy broke than busy bougie. Filthy rich? Only if we’re talking about the pile of dishes in my sink.
How Do I Handle It Without Imploding?
Here’s the thing, I actually don’t recommend this level of chaos to anyone. But, if you find yourself in a similar situation (which you probably will, because you’re awesome and ambitious), here’s how I manage to keep my head from spinning like a pottery wheel on overdrive:
1. Get Organized (Even If It Feels Like Herding Cats)
I write everything down—deadlines, to-dos, random thoughts about what I have going on like squirrel conspiracies. If it’s not on my list, it doesn’t exist. Sure, my list is terrifying, but at least I know where my terror is coming from.
2. Take Baby Steps
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is an audiobook, mural, or calendar release. I focus on small, manageable chunks of work (or as I like to call them, “fa-chunks”) and tackle them one at a time. No multitasking here—it’s a trap. One chunk at a time.
3. Fa-Chunk Your Fa-Chunks
There are days when I wake up and think, Not today, life. Not today. On those days, I pick just one thing to accomplish. I Give myself a limit on how long I’m willing to work on it before I quit for the day. This gets me started and I usually get in the groove and work longer on it. It’s not about winning the whole war; it’s about winning the battle that gets me started for the day.
4. Don’t Let Overwhelm Sink Your Ship
The most dangerous thing isn’t the pile of tasks—it’s the creeping sense of oh no, I can’t do this! I kick overwhelm out of the room the moment it shows up. My enthusiasm may take a hit now and then, but I refuse to let it sink completely.
5. Deadlines Are Suggestions (Sometimes)
Here’s a little secret: I’m not afraid to extend deadlines if I absolutely have to. Sure, I try to honor my commitments, but if things get overwhelming, I remind myself that it’s better to deliver something amazing late than mediocre on time. Deadlines are flexible (within reason), and sometimes giving yourself breathing room is the kindest thing you can do.
Why I Keep Going
Despite the chaos, I love what I do. Sure, it’s like juggling flaming swords while riding a unicycle, but it’s my unicycle, and those are my flaming swords. At the end of the day, every mural, work of art, book, video, and project is a step closer to my ultimate creative dream… to make the world a little brighter.
That being said, I’m taking steps to keep this from ever happening again. By spacing out projects and keeping them more manageable, I can ensure that my circus acts remain thrilling instead of overwhelming. Live and learn, right?
So, if you’re feeling like life is one big circus right now, take a deep breath, fa-chunk your day, and don’t let the overwhelm steal your spotlight. You’ve got this. If I can do it without losing my mind, everyone can.
Now, back to my regularly scheduled chaos! 😊
What’s on your plate this week? Share your circus acts below—I promise I won’t judge!
Hello, you awesome human! Let’s talk about happiness. Not the big, loud, “I just won the lottery and now own a fleet of quirky llamas” kind of happiness, but the tiny, quiet, sneaky happiness that creeps up on you when you least expect it. The kind that comes from a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, a cheesy dad joke, or flipping to a new month and seeing a delightfully grotesque-yet-adorable creature staring back at you from your Me and It Creatures calendar.
Yes, I said calendar. My Me and It Creatures limited edition calendar, to be exact. It’s not just a bunch of dates and boxes—it’s your ticket to adventure, fun, and possibly giggling at inappropriate moments during meetings.
The Power of Little Joys
Life is full of stress, chaos, and the occasional existential crisis when you realize you’ve spent 20 minutes looking for your glasses and they were on your head. But happiness? That’s the secret weapon. It’s the way you fight back against the doom and gloom, one little giggle-snort at a time.
I created this calendar with that in mind. Each month, you’ll meet a quirky Me and It Creature who has their own unique story to tell. They’re like little goblins of happiness, here to remind you that life is weird, wonderful, and better with a bit of whimsy.
Why My Calendar is Basically Your New Best Friend
It Keeps You Organized-ish: Let’s be honest—you’re probably not going to become a scheduling ninja overnight. But this calendar will at least make you smile while you attempt to adult.
It’s a Conversation Starter: Imagine someone walking into your home and spotting one of my creatures. The questions alone will be worth it. (“What…is that?” “Oh, that? That’s the February Me and It, reminding me to love my weirdness!”)
It Celebrates Fun Holidays: Did you know there’s a National Lumpy Rug Day? Neither did I until I started researching weird holidays. Now, my calendar includes them for your celebration pleasure.
It’s Limited Edition: That’s right. Owning this calendar makes you one of an elite squad of happiness hunters who recognize the value of spreading joy, one month at a time. Limit 100 Calendars.
Why I Want You to Buy It
Sure, I’d like to sell a bunch of these calendars because I’m a rogue artist who needs to fund my ongoing war against boring walls and uninspired desk spaces. But more than that, I truly love the idea of my creatures keeping you company all year long.
If one person tells me that my calendar made them smile on a rough day, then this whole project will have been worth it (but also, please buy one because, you know, bills).
How to Get Yours
The Me and It Creatures calendar is ready to bring adventure, humor, and maybe a little mischief into your life. It’s limited edition, so once they’re gone, they’re gone. Don’t be that person who waits until January to realize they need one (because honestly, January Creature is adorable and will feel left out).
So, grab your calendar, put it on your wall, and let’s make 2025 a year filled with joy, silliness, and maybe even a little adventure. Let’s spread happiness, one weird little creature at a time.
And remember, happiness isn’t just a destination—it’s a journey filled with mini monsters, weird holidays, and a whole lot of heart. 😊
You know those days when everything feels like a boring routine, and life’s about as exciting as waiting for toast to pop up? We’ve all been there. But what if I told you that joy is just hanging out in the small moments, waiting for you to notice it? As an artist, I’ve learned that life is a masterpiece made up of tiny details—brushstrokes, if you will. And with a few tips, you can start seeing (and enjoying) these everyday moments like a masterpiece, too.
Step 1: Look at the Mundane Like It’s a Van Gogh Painting
Life’s everyday details—the morning light, the sound of coffee brewing, that squirrel doing acrobatics outside—these might seem small, but they’re pure gold if you know how to look at them. Artists call this “seeing beauty in the ordinary.” You don’t have to paint the sunset to appreciate it—sometimes it’s enough to just sit there and take it in.
So, next time you’re on autopilot, pause and take a look around. Pretend you’re in an art gallery (yes, even if you’re just staring at your kitchen counter) and really look at things. The colors, the textures, the little patterns in the most unexpected places. Suddenly, the world becomes a lot more interesting. And just like that, you’re finding joy in the everyday.
The View From Our Front Porch During An Aurora Borealis
Step 2: Turn Routine Tasks into a ‘Creative Ritual’
Let’s face it: doing the dishes or folding laundry isn’t exactly thrilling. But what if you could turn these tasks into something special, like a “creative ritual?” Make it your moment—turn on some music, dance around, or imagine yourself in a slow-motion cleaning montage. You’re not just “doing chores”, you’re the star of your very own cinematic cleaning scene.
This little shift in mindset makes even the most basic tasks feel like part of a grand production. And before you know it, you’re smiling at your own ridiculousness. Who knew dishes could be a creative act? (Maybe don’t let your friends know you’re pretending to be in a music video—they might look at you funny. Or maybe do.)
Step 3: Add Some “Play” into Your Day
Artists know that creating isn’t just work; it’s play. They mess around with new techniques, experiment with crazy ideas, and sometimes make a total mess just for the heck of it. So, why not add a little playfulness to your day, even if you’re not holding a paintbrush?
Try something new and random, just for fun—learn a magic trick, make up a silly song, or doodle a stick figure on a sticky note. (Bonus points if your stick figure has a funny face.) Adding even a tiny bit of playfulness to your day can open up a world of joy. And hey, if it’s ridiculous, you’re doing it right!
Step 4: Appreciate Life’s Little “Happy Accidents”
Ever had a plan that went horribly wrong, but somehow ended up great anyway? In art, we call these “happy accidents.” Think of it as life throwing you an unexpected curveball that somehow turns into a win. Embrace these moments—they’re the universe’s way of keeping things interesting.
Spilled your coffee? Maybe it’s a sign you needed a break anyway. Forgot your umbrella and got caught in the rain? Hey, impromptu shower! Start seeing life’s little surprises as “happy accidents,” and they’ll go from annoyances to hilarious stories. You’ll realize the little detours can bring you the best memories.
Step 5: Find “Mini Masterpieces” in Each Day
Ever notice how artists are always stopping to admire something random? A cool shadow, the way leaves look in the sunlight, even a nicely arranged fruit bowl. They know that beauty isn’t just in big, dramatic moments—it’s in the small stuff, too. So go ahead, hunt for some “mini masterpieces” in your day.
Notice the bubbles in your coffee, the way the rain hits the window, or how the light looks just before sunset. These little details are like free art exhibits scattered throughout your day. When you start to see them, the world suddenly feels a whole lot richer—and that’s what we’re after, right?
Step 6: Celebrate Tiny Wins Like You’re at an Art Show
Every artist knows the feeling of finishing a tiny piece of art and thinking, “Yes! I did it!” You can do the same with your daily wins. Did you make it through a long workday? Applause! Finished a task that’s been on your list forever? Standing ovation! Your tiny achievements deserve to be celebrated, even if they’re as simple as getting out of bed on a rough morning.
In art, we’re constantly celebrating little milestones, and it adds a bit of magic to the process. Bring that mindset to your life, and soon you’ll find that even the smallest steps feel like a triumph. And hey, it gives you an excuse to treat yourself (not that you ever need one!).
Step 7: Make Life’s Canvas Yours (And Don’t Be Afraid to Go a Little Wild)
At the end of the day, remember that you’re the artist of your own life. So if you want to add a splash of color, a random adventure, or even a completely new “style,” go for it! Just like a painter gets to decide what goes on their canvas, you get to decide what goes into each day.
So if you’re itching to try something different—wear a bright color, take a new route home, try a wild flavor of ice cream—do it. It doesn’t matter if it “fits the plan.” Life is your blank canvas, and the joy comes from mixing things up and surprising yourself along the way. Who knows what you’ll discover about yourself?
Finding Joy, One Little Brushstroke at a Time
Life can be pretty amazing if you learn to see it like an artist—by appreciating the small details, adding a little playfulness, and celebrating every tiny win. The masterpiece of your life is made up of these little moments, and they’re waiting for you to notice them. So go on, grab your metaphorical paintbrush (or actual paintbrush if you’re feeling fancy) and start looking at life a little differently.
Everyday joy isn’t in the big stuff. it’s in the tiny brushstrokes of each day. The more you appreciate them, the brighter and more colorful your life becomes. So, go out there, embrace the everyday magic, and start creating a life full of little masterpieces!
In this bonus podcast, I share 7 steps to finding joy in the every day and see the world like an artist. This is a part of a meditation that I share with our rogues. Find out more about us at http://www.rafiandklee.com
I want to talk about something that sounds a little backwards: getting more done by doing less. I know, I know. It sounds like I’m giving you permission to be lazy, doesn't it? But honestly? Embrace that. Because this isn't about being lazy in the way people think; it’s about working smarter, not harder, and using a little bit of minimalism to save your sanity. This whole journey is about one thing: avoiding burnout.

The time has come to update you on the wild journey of the Dear Artist, Don’t Give Up book and, yes… there’s one more twist in the story! Your books will ship out November 26th— just in time to land on your doorstep as you recover from your Thanksgiving feast (and the fun that comes with too much family time 😆).
First, the audiobook—turns out, recording is one thing, but editing? Oh boy. I’m currently up close and personal with all the weird sounds my face makes (yes, I had no idea either), and let’s just say my microphone has picked up every breath, swallow, and mysterious face pop it could find. It’s a time-consuming, highly entertaining process (for the first five minutes anyway). But don’t worry, I’m in the final stages of silencing the rogue mouth noises so you can enjoy a smooth listening experience.
Now, about those goodies… Remember the additional items I promised you? Posters, bookmarks, little surprises? Well, they were supposed to be here days ago, but FedEx, apparently, has decided they’re too precious to share and has them on a mystical hold in Trenton, NJ. Rest assured, I’m doing all I can to free them from their Trenton prison and deliver them safely to your package!
And there’s another little life update: We’ve been getting up close and personal (really personal) with doctors. Yes, we’ve had an unexpected increase in doctor’s appointments and hospital visits. Don’t worry—we’re fine (so far)! But apparently, if you haven’t been to the doctor in 25 years, they’re ready to check everything. We’re talking tests, screenings, exams, and a deep dive into parts of us we didn’t even know needed investigating. Let’s just say some of these tests are… very exposing. I won’t go into detail, but let’s just say, after all this, I’m pretty sure our doctors know us better than we know ourselves.
Here’s the good news—the books are here, and they look fantastic! They’re sitting proudly in our gallery, practically glowing, and I can’t wait for you to hold one in your hands. So, Klee and I will be spending our Thanksgiving packing up books and (hopefully) the goodies, carefully prepping each package with love (and maybe a little pie filling on the side). On the 26th, you’ll get an email with immediate access to the audiobook download and digital goodies, so you’ll be able to jump into it right away. The books should arrive within a week, depending on your distance from us.
Special Pre-Order Edition 📚✨
Here’s something extra cool: these books are truly one-of-a-kind. They’re exclusive pre-order editions and won’t be available to the public. The non-pre-order editions will be available to the public in March 2025. That means each of you who pre-ordered is getting a very special early edition—a unique piece of this journey that only you and a select group of early believers will own. When this book finally hits shelves in March, you’ll be able to look at your copy, packed with special pre-order love, and know you were part of its launch from the very beginning.
A Heartfelt Thank You 💌
Now, a truly heartfelt thank you goes out to each of you who ordered the book. This project marks a big moment for me—it’s the first time I’ve gone solo, without Kickstarter or Indiegogo as a platform buffer, and your support has meant the world. This book, which is as close to my heart as anything I’ve created, exists because of you. You took a chance on something new and different, showing trust in me and this journey, and I can’t thank you enough. Your support allows me to keep sharing these stories, the art, and a bit of the madness that makes up this creative life.
To all you patient souls out there—this is it! No more extensions. Just amazing books, (hopefully) all the goodies, and an audiobook free of weird mouth noises.
With all my gratitude and appreciation, thank you for believing in me and Dear Artist, Don’t Give Up. Your support has turned this journey into something truly unforgettable.
Much love, Rafi

In this podcast, Klee and I discuss being productive as an artist. We discuss tips, roadblock and other reasons being productive as an artist may not mean what many think it means. Please find out more about us at http://www.rafiandklee.com
