Think back to when you first started creating. Before there were deadlines, audience expectations, or algorithms to feed. You created simply because it was fun. Because you had a spark, and you wanted to see what would happen if you followed it.
Over time, it is easy to let the pressure to produce turn a passion into a chore. Here is a little food for thought: When you lose play, you lose the spark that made you start in the first place.
If you are feeling burnt out or disconnected from your work, the solution usually isn’t pushing harder. It is stepping back and remembering how to play again. Reconnecting with your spark requires removing the pressure to produce something “good” and letting yourself create just for the joy of the process.
Advice on Finding Your Way Back
- Create Something Nobody Will Ever See: Strip away all public expectation. Make a mess, try a silly idea, or work on a side project purely for your own entertainment.
- Trace Your Steps Back to the Beginning: Revisit the books, art, games, or creators that inspired you when you first fell in love with your craft. Remind yourself what pulled you in.
- Prioritize Curiosity Over Consistency: If a routine feels like a drag, give yourself permission to follow a random rabbit hole of interest for a day. Passion follows curiosity.
