Finding the Fun in an Art Career

When you turn your passion into a business, it is easy to get caught up in the logistics, the sales, and the daily hustle. But every once in a while, an event comes along that strips away all the pressure and reminds you why you fell in love with creating in the first place.

We recently had the absolute pleasure of participating in Oil City’s first wearable art fashion show, and it was a total blast! It was a true taste of art for art’s sake, packed with pure, unadulterated creativity and fun.

Seeing the incredible variety of outfits and wild concepts on display in that amazing stone alley was nothing short of inspiring. From full-on Mad Hatter vibes to vibrant tie-dye masterpieces, the energy in the alley was unmatched.

Klee created an incredible, interactive outfit featuring a mustache and a mysterious trench coat. She absolutely played the part, flashing the secret jewelry collection hidden inside to the judges and the crowd. It was brilliant!

I decided to lean into the chaos and went all out as a colorful, cardboard-covered “Art-Mageddon.” The goal was to be as playful and ridiculous as possible, and it felt amazing.

A massive kudos to The Artists of The Annex for organizing such an incredible event, to all the participating artists for bringing their wild imaginations to life, and to our amazing community for coming out to support us all. It’s nights like this that remind us we aren’t doing this alone.

It is events like this that remind us of the true nature of art. Building a career as an artist shouldn’t mean turning your craft into a grind. If you lose the fun, you lose the heart of what you do. Finding ways to play, experiment, and collaborate just for the joy of it isn’t a distraction from your career: it’s what keeps it alive.
