ARTIST STATEMENT

This ink-on-paper piece explores the quiet weight of isolation and the internal question of belonging. The figure stands heavy and unresolved, partially dissolving into washes, drips, and smoke-like textures. The words “Where have I gone” are not an accusation, but a moment of self-awareness, the realization that parts of ourselves can fade when we are overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected.

Ink is an unforgiving medium, and that is intentional. It bleeds, stains, and settles into the paper in ways that cannot be fully controlled, much like emotions that surface whether we are ready for them or not. The dripping forms suggest both erosion and release, as if the figure is slowly unraveling while still remaining present.

This work is about acknowledging loss without dramatizing it. It sits in the space between disappearance and persistence, asking what it means to stay when parts of you feel like they’ve slipped away.
