Artist Statement:
This mixed media piece explores vulnerability, presence, and self-acceptance. The figure is rendered with softness and honesty, while bold marks, drips, and layered textures interrupt and surround the portrait, reflecting the way internal thoughts and external expectations often overlap with our sense of self. The work balances delicacy and assertiveness, quiet introspection paired with unapologetic marks.
Working on paper allows the process to stay immediate and human. The surface absorbs every decision, mistake, and adjustment, becoming a record of emotion rather than a polished facade. The use of mixed media gives the piece tension and depth, mirroring the complexity of identity and how we navigate being seen.
This work is about existing as you are, without performance or armor. It invites the viewer to sit with stillness, imperfections, and the layered nature of being human, where strength and softness are not opposites, but companions.
