ARTIST STATEMENT
The Raven (Nevermore 1) is my take on that iconic moment from Poe’s world where the raven becomes a messenger, a shadow, and a mirror all at once. I wanted to capture the feeling of a thought that refuses to leave you alone. Not in a dramatic horror sense, but in that very human way where an idea, a memory, or a truth keeps circling back and landing right in front of you.
The raven here is bold and sharp against a heavily textured background, almost like it’s carved out of the surface itself. The texture feels weathered, worn, and ancient, echoing the weight of something that has been repeated in your mind far too many times. The word “Nevermore” sits almost buried under the surface, as if it has been etched by time, emotion, or maybe even the bird itself.
For me, this piece is less about darkness and more about acceptance. The raven becomes the voice of the thing you finally decide to let go of. The reminder you needed. The moment when you stop fighting the truth and just acknowledge it. Sometimes that is where the freedom starts.
The Raven (Nevermore 1) is a nod to literature, to symbolism, and to that strange comfort we find in facing the things that haunt us. It is a reminder that even the shadow of a thought can become a turning point.
