Description
ARTIST STATEMENT
This ink-on-paper work explores what it feels like to exist inside your own body when emotions are running high and there’s no escape from them. The figure appears exposed and overheated, almost burning from the inside out, echoing the handwritten phrases that drift through the space: I’m inside my own skin and It’s hot in here. These words aren’t meant to explain the image, but to coexist with it, like intrusive thoughts that surface when the body and mind are overwhelmed.
Ink is central to this piece because of its unpredictability. It bleeds, pools, and stains the paper in ways that can’t be fully controlled, much like emotions under pressure. The raw washes and splatters mirror discomfort, intensity, and vulnerability, while the loose, imperfect figure reflects the fragility of being human.
Working on paper keeps the process immediate and honest. There’s no room to hide or polish away the mess. This piece is about inhabiting yourself fully, even when it’s uncomfortable, and acknowledging the heat, tension, and emotion that come with simply being alive inside your own skin.
