One of the core goals of the Art Syndicate is to get us out of our isolated workspaces and into the community. That’s why we are so excited to share some information from our good friend and amazing artist, Rachel Wheeler.
Rachel helps lead a fantastic group called “Friends En Plein Air,” and she’s invited all our local painters to join them for the 2026 season!
What is Friends En Plein Air?
Originally created as a way to step out of the studio and create in a community setting, this group has grown into a vibrant collective of people who love nature and the communities we live in.
The group is based in and around Venango County. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned professional, you are welcome! Every artist works uniquely in their own style, and the common thread is a love for art, creativity, and capturing the rich beauty of our local landscape.
The Goal: To inspire each other through group painting sessions and improve painting skills through the study of the natural beauty right here in our backyard.
2026 Dates & Locations

- Saturday, May 9th: St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bishop Ave. Oil City, PA (8am – Noon)
- Tuesday, May 26th: Courthouse Square, Franklin, PA (8am – Noon)
- Saturday, June 20th: Riverfront Park, Franklin, PA (8am – Noon)
- Saturday, July 18th: Joyce Schattauer’s Private Garden, Oil City, PA (8am – Noon)
- Tuesday, July 28th: Two Mile Run County Park, Franklin, PA (8am – Noon)
- Saturday, August 22nd: Location TBD
- Saturday, September 26th: Hemlock Creek, President, PA (Noon – 4pm)
