A glowing golden crescent moon, hand sawn and hammer forged in solid jeweler’s brass, featuring your choice of unique texture. Dangles beautifully from a 14k gold filled chain. The design is celestial minimalist, while still creating an elegant statement.
The moon is one of my favorite symbols to represent natural cycles and the ebb and flow of life. This crescent moon, depending on which hemisphere of Earth you reside, is a Waning Crescent (Northern Hemisphere) or a Waxing Crescent (Southern Hemisphere). Of course, you can also flip this pendant around to reveal it’s counterpart if you so desire. See below for more crescent moon symbolism details.
I start with solid 18 gauge jeweler’s brass which gets hand sawn, shaped, and hammer formed into a beautiful and unique crescent moon, no two are ever the same. After the hammer forming, it gets meticulously refined, filed and polished by hand, to ensure that it is beautiful and long lasting. I have enthusiastically employed my tools and geometry skills here, in order to create a crescent moon that is as geometrically accurate in length/width/percentage illumination ratios as possible with my two hands.
This necklace is made to order, no two are exactly the same. Yours will be custom created for you with your choice of texture and chain length.
THE DETAILS
-Crescent moon pendant is 18 gauge solid jeweler’s brass and measures about 52mm (2 1/16″) tall, 6mm (1/4″) wide at the widest part of the crescent, and 1mm thickness (please expect very slight variations as these are hand forged). Pendant is lightweight with an elegant profile, but is also built solidly. It will not bend or deform with normal wear.
-Available in four unique textures on front facing side of crescent, with subtle texture or smooth on the backside, depending on which front texture you choose. (Collage photos show each moon texture in bottom left photo, with reverse side texture shown in bottom right). Choose your desired moon texture from the drop menu.
-Crescent moon pendant will be oriented as shown in photos, with it’s most visible texture on the front facing side (which is Waning Crescent if you reside in the Northern Hemisphere and Waxing Crescent if you reside in the Southern Hemisphere) and subtle texture on the reverse side (except in the case of the smooth untextured option, which is smooth on both sides).
-Necklace can be worn flipped around to reveal the alternate, subtle texture side as well, but if you would prefer your crescent to be oriented in the opposite way (ie: You reside in the Northern Hemisphere and you’d like a Waxing Crescent with the more visible texture on that side, or vice versa, please reach out to me and I’m happy to accommodate your request.)
-Chain is 14k yellow gold filled 1.1mm cable chain with a small spring ring clasp. It looks delicate but is quite strong.
-Choose your desired chain length from the drop down menu. (Necklace shown in model photo is 17″ length, and shown in dress form photo at 18″ length).

CRESCENT MOON SYMBOLISM
Waning crescent: The portion of the moon illuminated is decreasing on it’s way to becoming the new moon. This is often regarded as a time of rest, recuperation, relaxation, trusting in what is, and pausing before preparing for the new cycle that begins with a new moon. For me, it’s a gentle reminder that while momentum is awesome, it’s equally valuable to take that quiet time we need for ourselves.
Waxing crescent: Following a new moon, a new crescent of illumination begins to emerge on it’s way to becoming more full. This is often regarded as a time of setting intentions after recharging under a new moon. Planting the seeds of hopes and desires in a new cycle. For me, it encourages those first moments and first steps on a new path, in a new phase.
ABOUT JEWELER’S BRASS (Pendant)
Jeweler’s Brass, also known as Red Brass or Merlin’s Gold is a type of brass that is higher in copper content than standard yellow brass (at approximately 85% copper) which gives it the same look and tone as 14k yellow gold.
My jeweler’s brass jewelry is made of solid brass which may darken and patina over time depending on conditions, though not as quickly as copper. These pieces are polished but not lacquered, and they are very easy to clean.
For some wearers, brass will leave a temporary green mark on your skin. It washes off with soap and water, and is harmless. If you have any questions about caring for jeweler’s brass or wearing it, please feel free to message me before purchase.
ABOUT GOLD FILLED JEWELRY (Chain)
Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold, which must constitute at least 5% (1/20) of the item’s total weight, mechanically bonded to sterling silver or a base metal (such as jeweler’s brass). Gold-filled items are 5 to 10 times thicker than regular gold plating, and 15 to 25 times thicker than gold electroplate, making it much more valuable and longer lasting because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film as on plated jewelry which is estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Most gold-filled is 12kt or 14kt gold-filled (I use 14kt for my pieces). Gold-filled does not de-laminate or peel like plated or “dipped” products. It is tarnish resistant and does not tarnish as readily as silver. Many find that they never have to clean gold-filled items at all. However, from time to time your jewelry may become dirty from everyday wear. To clean gold-filled it is best to use mild soap and water.
NECKLACE LENGTH GUIDELINES
If you already know your desired necklace length, simply select it from the drop down menu. Sizes are listed by the inch. If you would like an in between size (example 18 1/2″) please select the closest size from the menu and then leave me a note at checkout requesting the size. I will accommodate the size request as closely as possible.
If you don’t know what length you need, here’s how to measure to get the proper size. Take a flexible tape measure and drape it around your neck at the length you want the necklace to lay. The measurement where the two ends meet is your necklace length.
If you don’t have a tape measure handy, you can use a string and a flat ruler. Simply drape the string around your neck in the same way as you would with a tape measure. Pinch the string on each end where the two ends meet, and then place that section of string against a flat ruler to get your measurement.
You can also measure the length of a necklace you own that fits how you like in order to get your measurement, but if you choose this method please try to measure a necklace that is of a similar style to this one or at least is designed to lay the same way. Different necklace styles can fit very differently even if they are the same length measured end to end.
That’s it! Then choose your necklace measurement from the drop down menu and I will create your necklace to your desired length.
