I’m so excited to introduce a series that has been a long time waiting. These pieces are the first of a series that I have planned out for the next few months, keep an eye out. These use a special pigment that holds a charge for several hours and is non toxic. Coming soon. Watch the video for more information.
So it’s probably no secret that being an adult sucks.
As we walk around endlessly trying to prove out adultfulness to other adults that are not really adults either… I’m not sure there is such a thing.
It’s been quite wet outside, and although it is not great weather for finishing the mural that I’m working on, it is good for a moment of contemplation.
So I leave with this food for thought:
“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.” – Ashley Smith
So, as far as the mural is concerned, I have updated my schedule to playing it by ear… only a couple of days worth of painting left, now it’s just a matter of timing!
You guys are awesome and have a wonderful day!

Why: Because… why not?
The Be Nimble series is all about superstition. I wanted to create something that had a familiar concept to everyone who saw it, but still held a little mystery. I’m sure you know “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jumped over the candlestick.” But do you know why Jack jumps over the candlestick?
Back in the day, people would take turns jumping over a candlestick at a wedding ceremonies. Who ever blew out the candle could expect a year of bad luck… So basically, if you had been “celebrating” for a while, chances were that your drunk butt would get burned.
In my painting Jack is dramatically jumping over the candlestick to mock some of the weird superstitions we have in every day life. I know I have quite a few. Things like, knocking on wood or saying bread and avoiding the path of a black cat is just a couple of my superstitious quirks.
What weird superstitions do you have?
As a kid, I remember sitting on the beach and staring out at the sky and water. The calm, the massive energy, the sounds, the colors… I was in a different world. I’ve been asked if I do ocean scenes because I currently live on the coast… I don’t, but I do create the feeling of being in that serene world.
I remember the night that I saw something amazing. I was walking along the river walk in Chicago one lonely night and paused to look out at the water. I saw some fish spawning and among the dark shadows of fish I saw a flash of gold. Looking closer, I saw a giant golden fish in the dark river. It was quite amazing.
At what point do you think people stop believing in mermaids? I love painting mermaids and other mythical creatures because I think something is lost when we forget our wonder.
